Barclays employee Pauline Bevan from Rhossili
recently took part in a fundraising event in aid of Rhossili Village
Hall. Pauline together with other Committee Members raised over
£2,000 when a Sunday Luncheon was held on the 30 March 2008 at the
Village Hall. Eighty-seven people sat down to a wonderful three-course meal followed by the launch and sale of a new book, written by her late Father, that Pauline had recently edited and published. His writings had remained untouched since his death in 1982 and it was only when, in 2006 during a visit to the Hall, HRH Prince Charles queried "the spelling of the name of the village", that Pauline referred HRH to her father's notes and decided that the book should be published. A grant for publishing the book Reminiscences of pre-war Gower by Jack Bevan (1900-1982) was received from Awards for All Wales. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Rhossili Village Hall. Monies raised on the day were matched £ for £ as part of the Barclays Community investment programme. |
John Furneaux, Chairman of Rhossili Village Hall said: “The money raised will go a long way to purchasing more equipment for our new kitchen. Events like the one held on the 30 March can help to make life significantly easier for the committee members preparing and serving food to such large numbers”. Kathy Brown Community Manager said: “At Barclays we strive to strengthen local communities in which we live and work by supporting a range of causes from local schools to centres for older people. This is a fantastic example of Barclays staff fundraising with the local community to achieve something which we hope will make a real and lasting difference”. |
