About the Wednesday Club
The Wednesday Club was started in 1999 as a result of some villagers requesting that a meeting be held on a monthly basis so that people could meet one another for a couple of hours, particularly in the winter months when the days are short, dark and dank.
Four residents started the club and once it was decided that meetings should be held on a Wednesday afternoon, it was inevitable that it became known simply as "The Wednesday Club".
Speakers for the year were arranged and an outing to the National Botanical Gardens was arranged for June 2000. The Average attendance for the first year was 22-25. In the ensuing years the club has grown and the average attendance is now 35, with some meetings exceeding 40. When the club started it was only Rhossili residents who attended, but now it has attracted people from Penclawdd, Killay and Kittle.
Talks are arranged for each month and to date we have had excellent speakers to entertain us. Each year is completed with an outing. This year, in June 2007, we had a good day at Tewkesbury on the river. A month later the town wash awash with the horrendous flooding that took place.
The 2007-8 year has just begun with a talk by Rob Dyer, entitled "Humour in Court", which was well received by the 41 members of the audience.
Tea/Coffee and biscuits are provided at each meeting, with the Christmas meeting having traditional mince pies etc.
The club is open to everyone and all are made welcome. So, come along!
